Video Card

When choosing a display card you should clarify it is not so easy to upgrade  notebook video cards than desktop video cards and for many models is no video upgrade at all. Therefore choose notebook model before you buy one!

Laptop video card still far from nVidia GeForce 3, but in most of today's games are allowed to play. To do this laptops should be installed with a videocard like: ATI Mobility-M, ATI Mobility 128, ATI Radeon Mobility, nVidia GeForce 2 Go.

Whether are going to launch games on your notebook from time to time (or maybe you need an efficient graphics engine to work in 3D design programs)   If not - the right choice for you will be a mobile PC with built-in graphics in it.
Most Notebook cards are integrated into the main board and use your main RAM as for the video memory.

If to compare built-in graphics engines GMA 950 and Radeon Xpress 200M, the letter wins in its output, but at the same time its energy consumption is higher. But as for X3100, it is faster than GMA 950.

We would recommend stopping your choice on the integrated built-in graphics by Intel, if purchasing the notebook of the same manufacturer. And as for separate display cards, NVIDIA ensures the higher output than AMD, though the difference isn't too big. Rather often notebooks with Radeon may cost a bit less.

And more - the new mobile GeForce 8000 series support DirectX 10 and ensure even higher level of processing speed if compared with forerunners, but only when using Windows Vista.
